Strengthening border gate cooperation and promoting border trade between Lang Son (Vietnam) and Guangxi (China)
On June 13, 2025, an online talks was held between the delegation of the Lang Son Provincial People’s Committee, Vietnam, led by Vice Chairman of Provincial People’s Committee Doan Thanh Son, and the delegation of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, led by Vice Chairman of the People’s Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Liao Pinhu. The talks aimed to enhance cooperation in border gate management and foster the development of cross-border trade and economy between the two localities. The online talks was also attended by leaders of relevant departments and agencies from both sides.

The talks took place in a sincere, open, and constructive atmosphere, underscoring the spirit of friendship and cooperation. Both sides shared perspectives and assessed the current state of customs clearance operations, identifying existing challenges and discussing specific measures to facilitate immigration and import-export activities through border gates. Topics included expanding routes, improving customs clearance capacity, upgrading and modernizing border infrastructure, expediting pilot smart border gate construction, and accelerating the opening or upgrading of certain border crossings.

During the talks, both sides reached broad consensus on key areas of cooperation moving forward. Notably, they agreed to jointly direct their respective functional agencies to implement coordinated measures that facilitate import-export activities during peak trade periods — particularly for agricultural products, fresh fruits, and items within key industrial supply chains. They also committed to reopening, upgrading, and enhancing the efficiency of customs clearance at traditional and strategic border gates.

Importantly, the two parties agreed to establish an emergency customs clearance mechanism for critical goods and designated a joint task force to begin implementing this initiative immediately after the conclusion of the talks.
